Email marketing is the online entrepreneur’s best friend!

Consider this: About 99% of your website visitors will leave without buying anything from you on their first visit. But by creating a great opt-in offer you can at least get their contact details — and then use email marketing to follow up, build relationships, and turn them into paying customers!

And email is by far the BEST and CHEAPEST way to stay in touch with your customers and build rock-solid relationships with them.

The first thing you’ll have to do is give your visitors a compelling reason to give you their contact details. You could offer a free report, download, newsletter, or whatever will entice YOUR visitors to subscribe to your list.

Then to obtain their report or download, they’ll have to enter their name and email address into a form on your web page, like this:

This enables you to collect their contact details and, by signing up, your subscribers are giving you permission to keep this information and contact them in the future. (We call them subscribers, leads, or opt-ins — all of which are interchangeable.)

Imagine the power of a list of 5,000, 10,000, or 50,000 subscribers — a huge target audience all interested in your industry or area of expertise!

Email marketing can be used for many different purposes. You can use it to send valuable information to subscribers and establish your credibility as an expert in your field. Or you can use it to let your customers know about a special promotion you’re running. In fact, email allows you to manage, automate, and test all your communication with your customers.

Most important, though, email marketing allows you to build trusting relationships with your customers — so they’ll buy from you again and again! (This is called the “lifetime value” of your customers, and it’s extremely profitable!)

Give Me 45 Minutes I’ll Create A Plan To Help You Double Your List

(or get your first 1000 subscribers)

If you have never built a list for your business before then it will be difficult for you to know it’s true power.

80% of my sales come from my list which means that without it, I wouldn’t have much of a business at all.

My “Double Your List” consultation will show you exactly what you need to do to earn more money from your list.

Even if you don’t have a list yet, I will work with you to get your first 1000 subscribers and systematically convent them into paying customers.

Bottom line? If you are not building a list, growing it quickly, and converting them into customers, then you are leaving money on the table.

-> Click here for more details

I have time this week for 5 more consultations on a first come, first served basis so act now before I am fully booked.

Have a great week!

Hi everybody,

I’ve received a ton of questions this week about what to offer their website visitors to get them to join their mailing list.

Last week, I explained that if you are losing money if:

You are not collecting email addresses

You are not communicating with your list regularly

You do not include revenue producing links in EVERY email communication.

This week I explain exactly what do to bring your email list marketing up to date for 2012.

==> Click here enjoy your first month of training at 80% off the regular cost …

Here are 5 steps to earning the most profit from your list marketing efforts.

Step 1: What Do Your Visitors Need?

Spend some time reviewing your market research and your website traffic reports to determine what is bringing these visitors to your website.

What common problem, need, or want can you help them with?

You’ll need to know why people visit your website and what they want before any of this will work. Otherwise, your list will be filled with lots of people who will never buy your products and services.

Step 2: Decide What To Offer

Come up with something free that you can send to your subscribers such as a free report or ebook. Make of something that gives great information that demonstrates how you can help them.

Start simple by compiling some articles or blog posts onto a short report. offering a free chapter of your book also works well.

Step 3: Write a Great Title & Headline.

It’s not how good your content is that will get people to opt in, but rather how compelling your title & headline is.

Test different headlines and titles until you are getting the maximum number of website visitors joining your list.

Step 4: Get a Good Email Service Provider.

It is literally impossible to manage a mailing list manually while keeping up with new subscribers, unsubscribes, and staying compliant with all the various anti-spam regulations.

Using a white-listed email service provider such as iContact, will ensure that your emails are delivered to as many inboxes as possible, while automating the rest of the process so that it is easy to maintain and communicate regularly with your valued subscribers.

Step 5: Communicate With Your List Regularly.

It does you absolutely no good to go to all the trouble of building a list and then never communicate with them.

Set your list up to send automated messages (known as autoresponders) every few days so that the communciation is frequent enough that your subscribers will know who you are.

List marketing is all about staying in constant contact so that when your subscribers are ready to buy, they will buy from you and not one of your competitors.

Want To learn More?

On Wednesday at 11:00am Pacific Time, I will be teaching the Internet Entrepreneur Club members step by step how to build highly responsive mailing lists, develop trust with the subscribers, and earn more profit with every email.

==> Click here enjoy your first month of training at 80% off the regular cost …

I look forward to seeing you at the webinar.

Make it a profitable day!

Lists are the most powerful part of any successful online business.

You could destroy our offices and take away our website, just leave us with our list of hundreds of thousands of raving fans and we won’t miss a thing.

Why?

Because it is not our website that makes our business successful, but it is our list of fans and customers and the ongoing relationship we have with them.

In fact, you don’t even need a website to create a successful online business… although it helps, alot!

In this week’s video I explain the benefits of building a large list of subscribers and customers.

I also reveal how much of our sales comes from our list and how much comes from our website.

You may be surprised at the answer…

Anyone who uses email marketing knows how disastrous it can be to be blacklisted as a spammer. Your emails won’t be delivered, your reputation suffers… not to mention your bottom line.

Fortunately for you, we have tools that report how different email programs evaluate incoming messages. Here are our latest discoveries about how Microsoft Outlook decides what is spam and what isn’t:

What day your emails go out: Messages sent on a Saturday or Sunday are more closely correlated with spam than messages sent on a weekday.

UPPERCASE IN THE SUBJECT LINE: If words in uppercase make 25% (or more) of the total number of words, then the email is more correlated with spam. That’s 1 out of every 4 words.

Symbols (*#&@!!!) in the subject line: A “symbol” is any key on your keyboard that isn’t a letter or a number. Subject lines with 8% (or higher) symbols are more correlated with spam. Spammers used to overuse exclamation points and “@” symbols to get around spamtraps (ever had an email offering you “Vi@gr@”?)… so the traps have evolved.

Duplicate characters or spaces in the subject line: In many spam messages there is a meaningless (to the recipients) sequence of symbols separated by dozens and dozens of spaces. So emails that have a lot of duplicate characters in the subject line are flagged as potentially being spam.

Of course, this isn’t the complete list of how Outlook evaluates spam — Microsoft isn’t going to release all their anti-spam strategies — but it’s a handy “at-a-glance” list that should get you thinking about your approach and subject lines!

Oh, and have you ever wanted to know why “unwanted email” is called “spam”?

It’s because of this Monty Python sketch:

Probably the only time spam ever made us smile

Are you looking for quick ways to build your opt-in list? Conduct an online survey!

Surveys are great for doing market research. But there’s an extra, hidden benefit to conducting a survey.

You can use it to grow your opt-in list!

That’s important because you can build a strong relationship with the people on your opt-in list by offering them lots of great information. Then, once they love you for all the free stuff you’ve given them, you can present your offer to them — and they’ll be far more likely to buy!

Here’s how you get started…

Simply create a survey with a program such as Survey Monkey and put it on a landing page — then use pay-per-click advertising with a program like Google AdWords to send traffic to that landing page.

Encourage visitors to complete your survey by making them an offer they can’t refuse. Offer them some valuable information you know they’ll appreciate in exchange for their participation. Just make sure their reward is something you can email to them.

Then, after they’ve finished the survey, thank them for their participation and ask them for their names and email addresses so you can send them their reward. Presto — a multitude of new opt-ins for your list, all for just pennies a click!

This strategy works amazingly well…

… In fact one of our in-house marketing specialists used it on her own private site and experienced an increase in her opt-in rates of an incredible 75%!

Of course, you don’t want to throw up any old survey on your landing page just to grow your opt-in list. Might as well ask meaningful questions so the survey results provide you with information that will help you grow your business. You can find out exactly who your market is and what they’re looking for — and how much they’re willing to pay for it.

Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your survey:

Make an attention-grabbing pay-per-click ad – If possible, dangle the free “bribe” in front of your visitors right in the ad itself

Keep the survey short – A maximum of 10 questions is usually best

Keep the survey tightly focused — When writing your questions, concentrate on just one goal. What is the one piece of information you MOST want to learn from your survey?

We cannot emphasize enough how important a healthy opt-in list is to the success of an online business. Your subscribers are bound to become your best customers, so the bigger your list, the better. We recommend that you implement this list-growing strategy right away… then let us know what kind of results you get.

… Do you have any other great list-growing strategies to share? Tell us about them in the comments!

Are you looking for a company to manage all your email marketing chores? We’ve been recommending iContact ever since we did a long search to find a company that could handle the email marketing needs of the small online businesses that make up our customer base.

Now there’s another good reason to sign up. Prizes! iContact is awarding an Apple MacBook, an iPod touch, and a $100 Apple Gift Card to the email marketer who becomes their 50,000th customer.

If you already have a trial account, you just have to log in and upgrade to the full account. Do it before Sunday May 31 and you’ll also get a $5 credit to your account.

If you’re still managing your own email marketing, how’s that working for you?

Could you be growing your business in the time you now spend sending, tracking, and managing your campaigns? When you automate day-to-day tasks from the start, you’re poised for growth… and you’ve got the time to spend to make it happen.

You can sign up for a trial account with iContact and see how much time they can save you. And then, if you upgrade at the right moment, you could also be their 50,000th customer… and WIN.

The Act was introduced mainly to prevent phishing, malware, and spamming from within Canada, so if you’re doing legitimate email marketing to your opt-in list and following CAN-SPAM rules you shouldn’t have a problem.

Have you noticed any changes in the response times to your email marketing?

With a mailing list of many hundreds of thousands, we’ve always had the luxury of quick and easy email testing. We’ll usually split-test two or three versions of an email on groups of 10,000 subscribers and look for results the next day.

For years we’ve been able to get reliable results and send out the winner to the rest of the list in 24 hours. But lately we’ve been seeing a gap between when subscribers get a promotional email and when they actually do something about it. These days we have to wait a week to make sure we’ve got a reliable sample.

Are people taking longer to make up their minds to spend money because of the economy? Maybe it’s something else.

Have you noticed longer response times with your email marketing? Leave a comment and let us know.

Meanwhile, if you’re not already doing email testing, start now. Why WOULDN’T you want to know which subject line gets more people to read the message, or which offer converts better? Is your business already making all the money it possibly could?

Didn’t think so. Remember, your email opt-ins are potentially your best customers. They trust you.

How to test your email promotions

Create a “control” version and one or two test versions

Send each to a different group of at least 1,000 people from your email list

Measure which message is more effective (an email management service like iContact can provide statistics on open rates and clickthrough rates for you to analyze)

Send out the highest-converting version to the rest of your list*

Keep that version as your new control; then test others against it

Always test only one thing at a time (e.g., the subject line or day of the week the email is sent — not both!

Keep the testing environment as consistent as possible — if you are testing the day of the week, send the test emails out at the same time on each of the test days, and send emails to the same-sized test groups.

*Note: If your list is small, split it in two and send a different version to each half. Over time you’ll get to know what works best with your subscribers and you’ll improve your overall email performance.

Email testing is still pretty quick… it’s cheap… and you won’t believe the difference one small change can make!
