“Stale?” Oh, really?
A reader recently left a comment here on our blog accusing of us providing information that was “stale, stale, stale.”
Here’s what else he said: “The last tip I just received was to look into social networks for boosting traffic… duh! Come on Guru’s, [sic] it’s old news… actually after digging through your content, it’s all old news.”
Old news, huh?
Sure, the buzz about social media marketing has been around since 2006 — we were one of the first companies to start reporting on it! — but the fact is, many of our readers are new to the world of Internet marketing and don’t know a digg from a tweet.
And we feel it’s our responsibility to give them the information they need to start off on the right foot — even if that information is “old news” to some of you more experienced marketers out there.
Searching for the “latest killer strategy” that’s so hot you need to wear safety goggles just to look at it?
Better keep looking, then.
Sorry, but if you’re the kind of marketer who is always looking to jump on the bandwagon of the latest hot trend, you’re probably in the wrong place.
We don’t teach trends, we teach proven strategies that get RESULTS.
And we refuse to share any new marketing strategy with you unless we have exhaustively tested it to determine whether it actually helps real people make real money… as opposed to being some kind of elaborate pyramid scheme that only makes money for the handful of people who started it. Not that there are many of those going around the Internet. (Note sarcasm).
But that doesn’t mean we teach you outdated strategies that last worked in 2002!
The strategies we teach are constantly being tested and refined by our mentors. These folks are successful online entrepreneurs in their own right, and they work one-on-one with hundreds of clients every year, helping them make money in every industry you can imagine.
If we tell you something works, it does. It’s as simple as that.
… So does that make our information “old news?”
Maybe for the marketers who are making money hand over fist because they already have fully automated web businesses that target a thriving niche and are totally optimized for the search engines and have cost-effective PPC campaigns that are driving scores of eager buyers to their site and run sophisticated email campaigns that turn one-time buyers into lifelong customers and have used social marketing techniques to build up an active community of loyal customers who do their marketing FOR them.
… But if you haven’t quite managed to accomplish all of that with your business, we’re pretty confident our information can help you make more money online… and grow bigger, faster, quicker, without wasting money on any here-today-gone-tomorrow trends.
To your success, as always,
The Internet Marketing Center Team

I don’t know who that joker was but I think your stuff is great, very informative. Only problem is I’m like the people you talk about, I don’t know so much yet and I am always going huh??? when you use a term I dont understand. Like for example this is probably gonna make me look stupid but what are social networks? Websites like lavalife etc? How do you use those to market your own website?
Hey Alain;
If you’re ever confused by a term, just click on the “Resources and Products” button at the top of any page on this site. It’ll take you to our Glossary.
As for social media and how you use them for marketing… big subject. But we did an overview back in April, which you can read at http://www.internetmarketing.com/why-social-media-pt-1-community-and-credibility/ and http://www.internetmarketing.com/why-social-media-pt-2-driving-traffic-and-improving-your-seo/.
Or you can just use the search box and enter “Why social media.”
Hello IMC Team,
I don’t think there is anything stale abut your marketing tips and advice. I was about to pile on the praise for all your great advice. I have many great ideas which at some future point I would love to have the help executing.
I think that this is a great post/ rebuttal. It can sometimes be very easy for those of us who are experienced marketers to forget where we came from.
One of the traits of a true leader is to never leave anyone behind. Sometimes you have to circle back to the end of the platoon and help the last guy in line catch up.
Thank You for posting this information. Thank God for the new people who are just getting started in this Industry. You are the future leaders of tomorrow. It takes guts to admit you don’t know anything. It takes smarts to ask the questions that you may feel others with more experience will view as stupid.
NO question is a stupid one. Everyone started in the same place. Good Leaders never forget that and will never make you feel small because they happen to be so big.
Great post and great blog here full of terrific information for Internet Marketers at ANY level.

At least you read and respond to your readers, letting the good and the not-so-good come through as normal..good for you!
I read that too but he was just venting at the question and was angry at IMC for making him
feel let down. Simplified but close enough!
I am new to reading your blog, but have found some good ideas in reading it. I disagree with the “stale” statement.
I understand that you do not want to report about the “latest killer strategy” because you haven’t proved it yet, but I believe that those that are on top of the new trends and lead in exploiting them are the internet marketers that are making serious money.
Maybe your upset reader should look elsewhere for that, or maybe you should start a category of latest trends in strategy and make a disclaimer about the validity of the strategy. Its your business do what you want.
However, I believe that by posting about the “stale” comment you only showed that you were defensive about the comment, which is interpreted by the reader as giving validity to his claim.
I would have much better read a post about something helpful to me than one about you defending your position.
Thank you

Good points Jeffrey…
Maybe we did sound a bit defensive there. We just wanted say two important things:
One, we are in the business of helping people START online businesses, so we have to return to the basics over and over.
Two, we’ve seen how easy it is for people who haven’t yet mastered those basics to be dazzled by the latest, hottest strategy and think that will be their ticket to wealth. We want people to know that there are a whole bunch of things you need to be doing right before these killer strategies will work. So we’ll keep hammering away at the importance of building a solid foundation.
Hope you’ll keep reading and find lots of useful articles.
There are more and more new people coming to the internet every day.
I for one rely on resources like your site to cover the basics somewhere without assuming everyone is an internet expert.
i like your stuff you sound like you really know
what you are talkng about , i for one as a new begginer realy enjoys coming to ur site to know what is going on and to learn, please keep up the good works you are doing to make us successful online
i’m glad you highlight the tried and tested methods, the problem is people are always looking for the new best thing! What they seem to forget is that not all of us know the current or even slightly older “best methods”
