Anchor Text By | Posted February 23rd, 2009

Anchor text is the visible part of a basic text link. The clickable, blue, underlined words on this page are all examples of anchor text. The difference between anchor text and a link is that links contain anchor text. Here’s the source code of a text link:

<a href=”http://www.marketingtips.com”>Internet Marketing Center</a>

The part that reads Internet Marketing Center is the anchor text. The words you choose for your anchor text don’t affect the link destination, but putting keywords in your anchor text is a sound search engine optimization strategy. Your users will also appreciate that your anchor text tells them where they’re going!
