HTML stands for “Hyper-Text Markup Language.” HTML is a language for creating web pages in which raw text is transformed into structured documents complete with links, images, formatting, colors, and so on.
HTML uses elements called “tags” to pass information to your browser about how to display a web page. Most browsers will show you the source for any given HTML page: In the view menu, choose “Page Source” in Firefox, or just “Source” in Internet Explorer.
Files and URLs containing HTML usually have a .html or .htm filename extension.
