Linkbait is content that is so attractive to other website owners that they’ll publish it on their sites — giving you a one-way link to your website. With the Web’s constant demand for fresh content, there is always opportunity to create linkbait:
- Write useful articles: Show someone how to do something, or research something complex that’s peculiar to your niche market
- Offer free stuff as bait: Giving anything away can create a positive buzz (just ask Oprah), and if you give away an information product it costs you nothing
- Run contests or give away awards: winners will likely link back to you!
These linkbaiting practices all share the same goal: To generate incoming links to your website. The more incoming links your website has, the better it will do in search results rankings.
